I did an XP re-install (SP3, and all updates current), and now my geforce
6800 is usable in AdvanceMAME! I also am using a different driver set -
81.95, instead of 93.71 I was using with my 6200 (?) - which I didn't try
out before re-installing, so maybe that was actually the solution, but it
was totally worth it.

...possibly particular to this card, I don't know.

- the drivers don't really matter. Due to the circumstance noted below, I
tried different drivers - 81.95 (Nvidia claimed these were the original ones
for the card), 93.71 and Guru.com 93.71, and recent 169.21 . Same behavior
with all.

- the 'default monitor' settings mean the old XP refresh issue is back.
Weird, because I didn't experience this with my 6200. I had to use
RefreshForce to correct this. A somewhat minor issue, particularly because
I'm familiar with what happens when my monitor won't display at what I know
are acceptable resolutions, and because I'm familiar with RefreshForce.

Though it wasn't immediately obvious because I was at first thinking it
wasn't going to work like the first time around......wait!....maybe the
install had nothing to do with it!! Perhaps the refresh issue was always
the culprit!!! Not that the re-install wasn't worth it for other reasons,
big time, but still.

- anyways, again, maybe particular to this card, but sometimes I get little
tearing-like effects.

So, not ideal, but pretty good, workable. I might RMA the card, if I can,
just for good measure.
